First round of pictures!

I went to take the "after" pictures of our house the other day, and then I realized that several of the rooms needed some cleaning attention before they would be picture-ready. But here are before and after pictures of the rooms that were clean!

Christmas

Well it's the holiday season again, and I think I'm finally starting to get excited for Christmas. I haven't been in much of a holiday mood at all lately, but as we get closer, I'm getting there. All I have to do is think about Carter waking up on Christmas morning (with his adorable new Christmas sleeper that he's going to open on Christmas Eve), and walking out to see all his presents! Actually, his presents are already under the tree, so he might need a little explanation, but I am leaving one unwrapped, from Santa, so he'll see that at least and get excited. He will also have a stocking full of things to open! The present I'm leaving unwrapped for Carter is (and you've probably seen these if you spend any time in the toy aisles of stores) one of those little triceratops that moves its head and roars when you pat its back. I think he will absolutely love it. He's also getting a toy drum, a puzzle, several books (including a board book version of The Very Hungry Caterpillar which is his favorite, and also a custom made board book with pictures of him and his family), and a few bath toys.

After we have Christmas morning at our new house (pictures soon, I promise!), we'll be driving up to Sahuarita to have presents at my parents' house! And that's what I'm excited for, because my mother has gone SO far overboard buying things for all of us! Carter has lots of nice things to open, and I'm excited for my gifties too!!

The next two weeks should be great, because Daniel is off from work, I'm off from Charlie Brown rehearsals, and I also get to take one day off each week (I usually work two days, so I only have to do one). I will, however, be continuing with Urinetown rehearsals (and probably attending some extra ones), and we will be rehearsing and performing 16 Hamlets at Beowulf. That performance is on New Year's Eve, so I'm sure a lot of rehearsals will be squeezed into the next two weeks. Whatever free time I end up with, I plan on going through all the boxes and bins that haven't been touched since our move, and clearing out the shed floor, and putting the bins to be stored in the storage space in the top of the shed.

My plan was to start teaching dance classes in the shed, putting in flooring and mirrors and everything, but I think I'm going to wait on it. The girls who would probably be most likely to do it seemed kind of ambivalent and unsure last time I talked to them, so I don't think I'm going to throw down the start up money just yet. All the same, it will be nice to have the shed cleared out, and if anyone wants to take tap lessons, we can still do that!

I am looking forward to a relaxing next semester (I hope!). Hamlet is only the one performance on the 31st, Urinetown is performed the last weekend in January and the first in February (but I will be gone the second weekend), and Charlie Brown has been pushed back to mid February (as soon as I get back from Florida, in fact we're leaving half a day early to make it). And actually, the show choir competition will be the weekend after Charlie Brown, so I'll be choreographing and teaching their entire show during January I guess! Okay, so much for relaxing, but it's all exciting, and I love it all!

Oh yeah, and on top of all that, we heard from Arid Rose theatre, and apparently they have cast us in a musical called "China: The Whole Enchilada," which is normally for three guys, but they are expanding it to be three guys and three girls. Anyway, we'll see what kind of rehearsal schedule they have in mind, and how (if) we can work it in!

I don't think I'll be doing a whole lot of auditioning early next year. I've had enough projects to keep me busy, and I'd like a little bit of a break! Maybe I'll finally learn to cook... Either way, we're probably going to try for another baby in the spring, so I'll have all summer to do a show if one comes up. We'll see how it goes, but there's definitely a lot of fun stuff coming up!

The trip to Florida in February will include stops at Disney World, where Carter is going to get his first haircut, and probably some fun places along the way (we are driving). Then two weeks later, I'll be in California with the show choir, and Carter is staying with my parents, so it will be a fun and stress-free trip!

Well I hope everyone is enjoying their holiday season and preparations for the big day. Tonight we are the holy family at our ward's Christmas party...we'll see how that turns out. Next up, before and after pictures of my house! I commit to doing that ASAP!

Auditions 8, 9, and 10!

Well, I made it. The goal was 10 auditions this year, and I fit them in.

Audition #8 was for Live Theatre Workshop's production of Picnic. They were just looking to cast the two girls, and I figured I'd go for it. There were a lot of girls there, and there was one girl that the director seemed to like who I bet got the part. Ironically, I overheard that same girl trash talking her current director (who I am also currently working with). Not a good idea to say bad things about other directors at an audition, sweetheart, everyone knows each other! I chose not to pass along the comments.
Anyway, the cool thing about that audition was that there were two parts- a beautiful but not-so-smart girl and a smart but not-so-beautiful girl. I was asked to read for the pretty one. :) Okay, fine, the pretty one was also closer to my age, but anyway- it made me happy. The director said he would call everyone regardless, but I didn't hear anything. I hate that. I don't care if they don't get back to me (although a quick email to say thanks but no thanks would be courteous), but when they say they will and then they don't- that's just bad business.
It was my first time using my new headshots, and I love them!

Audition #9 was for the Arid Rose Theater, (see the post on auditions 6 and 7- they are the company I went to interview for a choreography position, which ended up strangely). So they want to do a musical, and the audition notice said it was about Joan of Arc, but when we got there, he said they were looking at a few different musicals and a play. Daniel and I both auditioned, and I don't think many other people auditioned at all. He told us then and there that he'd use us (which I also don't like- call me two days later and at least let me think I beat out some people!), but we haven't heard more, and who knows what they will end up doing. I'm on the fence about them... We saw the play "Art" there, which was pretty good, but they don't seem to be getting any people involved. Something isn't sitting right, but we'll see.

Audition #10 was for Beowulf Alley. This was for the same guy who told me "Gosh, you're so talented" (see my first audition post). I almost didn't even go to the auditions. I wanted to audition, but I just didn't feel like going out that night. But I figured that the one audition I didn't go to would be the one that works out, and I was right! The audition was for a play called 16 Hamlets and an Ophelia, and they were looking for two guys and two girls in the 18-30 range. The play tells the story of Hamlet but in a lot of different, funny ways. Long story short, the director remembered me and actually said that he almost called me to invite me to the auditions, I read a monologue from the show, he liked me again, and he invited me to be in the play, as well as their Christmas show that is coming up. He gave me a Christmas show script and said he'd call me the next day. So I kind of got cast in two shows at once! BUT, after looking at the Christmas show script, I decided not to do that one, because it's a compilation of pretty irreverent skits that I don't feel good about.
But it looks like Hamlet is going to work out! It's a very short rehearsal process- there is just one show scheduled for New Year's Eve, part of Tucson's First Night celebration. So I'll even fit in the show before the end of the year!

So I have been so incredibly busy! Charlie Brown rehearses Tuesdays and Thursdays, I do Urinetown rehearsals on Wednesdays and some Saturdays, and I'm about to add in some Mondays. Daniel has been rehearsing for the community Christmas concert on Sunday evenings, and he is in the middle of all his school Christmas performances now. I also work on Thursdays and Fridays, and so I feel like I'm never at home. I am really enjoying the opportunities that have come up, but I will also be happy when these shows are over! I will always look at audition announcements, but unless something great comes up, I would like to spend most of the spring at home, enjoying my family and keeping our house beautiful. I would also really like to move cooking and gardening up a little higher on my priority list, so maybe I'll find some time to learn more about those things. Our plan is to try for another baby in May, so I would be able to do a show late this spring or early this summer if something came up. I'm just really glad I was able to choreograph these two shows and be in another one in between babies!

So I haven't really been in the Christmas mood at all, but I'm getting there. I bought Carter an adorable Christmas sleeper, so when I get down, I just picture him toddling out to the living room on Christmas morning wearing it and seeing all the presents under the tree! He's such a cutie. He saw Santa today, and I thought he'd be scared, but he loved him! They looked a book together, and that was the picture we chose- it's so cute. I'll scan it later and post it.

Well enough of my rambling- that's the update!

In this folder there’s a picture
From my high school graduation
With a program, mint condition
And a star beside my name
Here’s a picture of my parents
As I left for California
She saved everything we gave her
Every little scrap of paper
And our lives are in these boxes
While the woman who held us is gone
But we go on, we grow
So hold tight, Abuela, if you’re up there
I’ll make you proud of everything I know
Thank you, for everything I know

Benjamin Button

So on Sunday afternoon, Carter and I went up to my mom's house so that he could go to the Rancho Sahuarita kids' Halloween party. He went as Benjamin Button, and everyone loved him! He was kind of the hit of the party. They had a costume contest, and the first group was kids 5 and under, so I stood in line with him. The ladies who were choosing the winners kept looking at him and pointing, and at one point, I heard one of them say, "He looks just like my grandfather!" So they announced that there were ties for second and first places. There were two little boys dressed in handmade "coke" and "popcorn" costumes. They announced that the "coke" tied for second place, and when his brother came up with him, they said that the "popcorn" tied for first. They then said that the baby lamb was also in second place, and that also in first place was Benjamin Button!!! I brought him up, and they handed him a ten dollar bill, which he then tried to give back to them, but I made sure we kept it! Definitely worth the drive up! He was so adorable...as adorable as a little baby with age makeup on could be...

People kept pointing at him all afternoon, and one family came up to us and said they knew exactly who he was supposed to be, and that he didn't need his button (my mom made him a button that said "Benjamin Button" cause we didn't know if everyone would get it). Anyway, definitely a fun time, especially since he won! We got to ride the little train again, which Carter LOVES!

And on Saturday we have the trunk or treat and haunted house. Apparently there is going to be another costume contest, so we'll have to try that one too! And they are having a pumpkin carving contest, which I'm going to enter, because I'm pretty good at carving pumpkins! We'll see how those contests go! :) Happy Halloween!
